Do you favor or oppose a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage?
Comments
oppose, oppose, OPPOSE!!!!! gays should be allowed to marry without a doubt. they're just people with affection for one another. what's wrong with that?
I strongly oppose this ban. Using the Constitution, which guarantees the rights and freedoms of the people of the United States, to exclude a group of American people from a specific right or freedom, is the height of hypocrisy. I have been married for 25 years and my marriage is neither threatened nor weakened by the prospect of gay marriage. Believing that gay marriage will destroy the “family unit” in some way is willful ignorance. I am not in the least threatened by someone being “gay”. I do, however, feel threatened by those who profess to hate them or are willing to discriminate against “gay people” for something that should, really, have no effect on them. This country was predicated on the stated belief that all of its citizens had the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.
I believe that same sex relationships can form a partnership for the tax benefit of such an arrangement without disturbing our constitution. Our country was founded by Christians who wanted to honor God, our Father and our Constitution was founded upon definitions from the Holy Bible. I am apposed to mankind redefining for God what our forefathers came here to protect for their offspring...the right to honor the Lord our Father, per the definitions we find in the Holy Bible.
I oppose. Using our Constitution to in any way regard a societal construct such as marriage is ridiculous. This has always struck me as an issue fabricated for political gain. It is absolutely heinous to single out a minority group among us for this type of restriction, and even more heinous that our elected (at least most were elected) leaders are making what should be a personal and private decision something that can be bandied about by legislators.
How dare we? Banning gay marriage is as worthless as banning African-American or Jewish marriage. Plus, its justification is all wrong. "Our policies should aim to strengthen families, not undermine them. And changing the definition of marriage would undermine the family structure," Please. Is my family, with divorced parents and a new stepfamily not the right structure? How about someone adopted, or living with grandparents or other relatives? Are they not your perfect "family structure" that we can never undermine? Banning gay marriage is discrimination in its most overt sense. Keep your personal beliefs at home or in your church, Mr. President. Don't force them on the rest of us.
I am a southern Christian. I am also an American. How dare anyone --of any political persuasion attempt to hijack the Constitution to amend it for the sole purpose of discrimination. I am personally opposed to gay marriage as a Catholic--but the Catholic Church does not have to marry anyone it does not approve. As an American--if 2 people of the same sex wish to marry--and can find a church--or a courthouse willing to do it--so be it. We are a diverse land--about freedom. I stand for freedom of choice as an American. This "amendment" is a bad idea.
I favor this constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. America must rise up and go back to the foundations on which their fathers established the nation, before something worse than 9 11 strikes. God have mercy on us all.
I think we that are gay should be able to get married because it is a free country. Oh i forgot iraq is a free country now maybe i should move there. i think it is really stupid for people to hate on gay people where they can not get married. It is no different then any racist. That is what i think about that. Thank you
I am in favor to ban gay marriages. It is obnoxious.
hello this is mohammedripon(dip)from bangladesh who strongly support mr,Bush to stop about the gay marriage. i believed one thing that we should go by the nature of law and if we can't do it then the system of this creation of nature will breakup where gay marriage system is one of them.im allso requesting those gay people to comeback to the real life nature where women is strongly needed. thanks________Dipu.
I am 100% in favor the Marriage Protection Amendment. Marriage is, and always will be between ONE MAN AND ONE WOMEN! There will be 50 different state laws, and alot of confusion. What a perversion other wise!
I favor a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage. God considers those that practice that life style a abomination. If the laws of this nation approve such practices, this nation can no longer expect the blessing of God. The bible states that those that go against the laws of God, are from their father, Satan. Any joy or happiness that comes from being disobedient to the laws of God is short lived, only for a season and after that, woe unto them. Beware, God is not mocked, you shall reap what you sew. He is our creator and he sets the laws that we must live by. Otherwise, well.............LOOK OUT!!!111
same sex marriage is going against the Holy Bible and against what America stands for For this country was founded upon God And the American people has forgotten this And has left God out of our lives And our Country our President is right in what he is trying to do And like him i Favor the Constitutional Amendment and i will Always stand behind my God fearing President for he Knows that this is A Sin Against our Lord And Our God FOR NO MAN SOULD MARRY ANOTHER MAN OR VICEVRSA THIS IS THE WRONG MESSAGE TO SEND TO OUR CHILDREN .
Oppose. Wether I am a homosexual or not I oppose any legislation that would discrimminate. Our social behaviors do enough damage in this area. I will protect the honor of the men and women who lost their lives so that I may be free and have a voice. I have always been a lesbian since I can remember. I am now 48. It was never a choice for me. What was a choice was to stay "in the closet". As my career flourished and the need to belong to a community and church enviornment grew, I bought into the religious and social bull ---- that my life would only be full and complete if I had a husband by my side and had a family so that I could be part of a church community. So I left all my friends and homosexual life behind and married. This turned out to be the WORSE CHOICE I HAVE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE. The heartache and pain I and others went through because of that decision I would not wish on my worst enemy. I am no longer married and his children decided to stay with me. They finished high school, college, married and I am now a grandmother...and the most perfect person I could have ever dreamed for has been my partner for the last 10 years. And yes....God has truly blessed my life in so many ways. It creeps me out when I hear the word "christian" now because they have abused and distorted the very meaning of this beautiful word. The hypocrites and the religious conservatives need to get their own house in order.....leave mine alone. We have gay men and women, all faiths represented and yes, straight people.... fighting to protecting us right now and dying.....jeeez louise people.....get real and lets come together and fight for what is going WRONG in OUR BIG HOUSE. It isn't gays and lesbians destroying our family base and country, it is oppression and fear tactics based on greed and power.
I oppose writing discrimination into the Constitution.
I oppose a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage. I oppose changimg or amending the constitution for anything. It has served us well since the beginning of the USA and should stay, in place, as it was originally written. The contitution tells we are free to decide our own fates. Let's keep it that way.
I oppose bans on gay marriage! Marriage is about love, not sex or race or any other discriminatory factor. America is about love, peace and equality. Times are changing. Separation of Church and State please!
I am a 40-something mother of two, and straight. I absolutely support gay marriage, and have known many gay couples who are in stronger and healthier partnerships than many male-female marriages, and who make excellent parents.
I strongly oppose the ban. Everyone should have the right to marry who they wish. The act of marriage does not hurt any one, on the contrary. It is no ones right to oppose their sexual preference on others.
I feel so strongly that if God intended same sex marriages, he would not have created Eve for Adam. Almost all life forms require an opposite sex for procreation. This should be PROOF that the ACCEPTABLE COMBINATION is man and woman; not same sex! Also, if humans were intended to have sexual relations with the same sex, then it would only make sense that they would also be able to procreate. Men don't have wombs for a reason! It makes me ill to see two people of the same sex kissing, or having sexual contact in public. I can only pray that someday soon, for our country's sake, the people will WAKE UP and regain some of our senses and return to a state of morality and decency that may restore our faith in God, pride in country and our families. This might even help restore the work ethic which seems to be fading in this country. Our continued permissiveness for all types of oddities and immoralities is destroying this country. See the following example: Why is it O.K. to permit people to kill babies, but not O.K. to euthanize animals, or use the "night after" shot to terminate unwanted animal pregnancies? This type of thinking and law verifies that, in this country, humans are less worthy than our animals. In many states, a person that **** or molests a child gets less time in prison than a person that steals an automobile.
